BIKINI
COFFEE COMPANY
Could
this concept work for YOUR coffee cart or stand...Or for any OTHER type
of mobile food service?
This
business concept has caused a bit of an uproar...but also great profits
for the clever owners.
A
coffee stand staffed by bikini-clad baristas. Wouldn't you stop by at
least once just to see what all the comotion was about?
Granted,
you've got to be able to handle the (free!) media
attention and possible feminist and
religious protests, but the up-side is wonderful loads of cash flowing
into the owner's (and baristas) pockets. (Well, maybe not into the
barista's pockets...there
are very few places to stuff a dollar bill in a bikini!)
Here's
a brief story from KGW Television News in Portland, Oregon:
PORTLAND -
If it sells in Salem, maybe it will perk up Portland.
By
FRANK MUNGEAM / KGW.com
At least
that's what the owners of Bikini Coffee
Company are hoping.
The first Portland location opened Wednesday morning in downtown to
enthusiastic customers.
The
Salem-based company best
known for outfitting its baristas in bikinis opened a new location in
Portland on Wednesday.
In May
2007, KGW first reported how Adam Marshall
and Steven Rotan used the bikini baristas idea to give their Salem
Coffee Nation drive-through stand a jolt.
"We wanted
to do something fun and different,"
Rotan said. "It's
creative and something new for people to look at."
The
marketing strategy worked, as sales increased $1000 a day. They added a
second Salem location, and will open in early July in Portland.
(end
of KGW story)
They're
not the first to try this...We first heard the idea from a small chain
of coffee stands in various Seattle suburbs. Obviously, the idea is
spreading.
Will
it spread to other forms of food service? We think it could, and would
be very successful if you're the type of business person who can handle
some promotion-generating controversy. And is either an attractive
bikini-wearer, or has an understanding wife or girlfriend.
